Chris’s Sport on Freeview Guide – Issue 4

Hello – welcome back.  Hope you like the feature I did at weekend with Sky Sports; seems to have been popular, and so we’re going to run a feature on Now TV next month, so keep checking the blog for more updates.  And I’ll try and do more ‘mini-features’ at a weekend, they may not all be sports related, I’ll mix the subject up a little bit perhaps.

Quick update – some sources online had suggested Challenge will be showing the PDC Sydney Darts Masters from August 28th onwards, but no TV listings have the coverage scheduled at present.  If I get an update on this, I’ll let you know – I’ve contacted the PDC to see if the event will indeed be shown.

Now, we’ve been in touch with several broadcasters in recent weeks – this week it’s the turn of UKTV.

Chris – UKTV doesn’t have a sport portfolio as such – but documentaries about the England Football team on Dave during the World Cup were really good, any plans for live sport or documentaries in the future?

UKTV – We don’t have any live sport planned at the moment however Dave has upcoming series of action packed Red Bull extreme sports series Red Bull Cliff Diving, Red Bull X-Fighters and Red Bull Soapbox – they are always super exciting and the strength of the athletes is insane!

Chris – UKTV has four channels on Freeview (Yesterday, Drama, Really and Dave) – tell us about one thing we can look forward to for each channel over the coming months?

UKTV – We have the brilliantly spooky Most Haunted coming exclusively to Really on Thursday 20th August, and over on Dave we have the second series of Crackanory which features readings from late and great Rik Mayall, brilliant Vic Reeves, BAFTA winner Katherine Parkinson and many many more! Yesterday has a great series called Raiders of the Lost Art on Wednesdays at 9pm which examines how artistic treasures from around the world have gone missing, some under very dramatic circumstances. Meanwhile, on Drama there’s Oliver Twist, which stars Hollywood heartthrob Tom Hardy before his Dark Knight Rises days on Sunday 24th August from 6pm and there’s also Ripper Street starring Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn which is new to the channel from Monday 25th August.

Chris – I believe Dave will be screening Rik Mayall’s final recorded television appearance in Series 2 of Crackanory on 24th September, how about repeats of Filthy, Rich and Catflap and The Young Ones on Dave to coincide with this final broadcast?

UKTV – We certainly will and it’s a brilliant episode and story, Gold had a tribute weekend last month and they regularly show  Rik’s back catalogue of brilliant shows.

Chris – Although Top Gear isn’t a sport as such, we have many petrolheads who visit the blog and Top Gear repeats are immensely popular on Dave.  What’s the earliest series that Dave has the rights to at the moment, I keep trying to catch the episodes I’ve missed over the years!

UKTV – Series 6 is earliest series of Top gear we have.

Thanks to UKTV – we’ll keep in touch with them over the coming months…

P.S  I’ll be LIVE on BBC Radio Leeds, being interviewed by Martin Kelner on Wednesday August 27th at 1:30pm!  Listen LIVE if you can!  Part of a segment called ‘Brief Lives’.  Will also be on BBCIplayer Radio for a week after broadcast – talking about my life so far!  Chris
