Chris’s Sport on Freeview Guide – Issue 5

It’s a Darts Special this week!  180!  First thing, I was on BBC Radio Leeds on Wednesday August 27th 2014 at 1:30pm LIVE, being interviewed by Martin Kelner about my life!  It’ll also be on BBC Iplayer for a week after broadcast – tune in if you can and let me know what you think of the ‘Leigh Tandoori’ song at the end!

Link to the show at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p024rf2y and search for the August 27th show.

Before the Darts news, just to let you know you can now follow me on Twitter – I can be found at https://twitter.com/chriscbenson please spread the word about the site!

Starting off then with an interview with the PDC – Challenge TV will be showing coverage of the Sydney Darts Masters this week, starting on Thursday, so we thought we’d ask PDC a couple of questions for this week’s blog.

Chris:  So what PDC darts can we expect on Freeview channels over the next few months?

PDC: On ITV4 we have four events during the year, with three still to come during the autumn of 2014, as follows:

European Championship – October 24-26 live from Germany

The Masters – November 1-2, live from Edinburgh

Players Championship Finals, November 28-30, live from Butlins Minehead Resort.

In addition, ITV4 screen the UK Open in March, which will be back in 2015.

Chris: What players can we expect to take part?

PDC: All of these events will feature the likes of Michael van Gerwen (current World Champion and world number one), Phil Taylor (16-time World Champion) and stars such as Adrian Lewis (2014 UK Open champion and 2013 European Champion), Simon Whitlock (world number four and former European Champion).

Chris: Are any more events likely to be added to Freeview in the future?

PDC: We have no further events planned with Challenge TV but can’t rule anything out in the future, in addition to our events with ITV4 and on Sky Sports.

As background, last year’s World Series of Darts events in Dubai and Sydney were shown on Eurosport, and the Dubai Darts Masters in May 2014 was live on Sky Sports.

Chris: So, can you confirm whether the Sydney Darts Masters will be shown delayed or live?

PDC: It’s been confirmed tonight (Sydney time!) that the broadcast will be delayed but full coverage “as live” from Sydney.

The broadcast times are:

Thursday August 28 – 10pm-2am, 8x First Round

Friday August 29 – 10pm-1am, 4x Quarter-Finals

Saturday August 30 – 10pm-1am, Semi-Finals & Final
