Sport on Freeview – Week Commencing August 29th 2015

Hello all – it’s been a while, but I thought I’d return to the Sport on Freeview Guide.  It may not include all sport listings this week, but next week, I’m aim to include more – the main thing is… the website is back!  I’ve typed up as much as I can for this week, look out for updates every Saturday morning – spread the word!  You can follow me on Twitter @chrisbenson007 I’d love to hear from you.

BT Showcase

Notice on Monday evening, BT Showcase (Freeview Channel 59) has programming from 7pm through to midnight – worth a look.

Incidentally, a couple of people asked how does it calculate to 351 games that BT will be screening for the Champions and Europa League each season for the next three years?  Well, here’s the breakdown.

UEFA Super Cup

1 game (already played)

Champions League

20 games = Play Offs (10 ties, 2 legs)

96 group games

16 games = Last 16 (8 ties, 2 legs)

8 games = Last 8 (4 ties, 2 legs)

4 games = Last 4 (2 ties, 2 legs)

Final

Europa League

144 group games

32 games = Last 32 (16 ties, 2 legs)

16 games = Last 16 (8 ties, 2 legs)

8 games = Last 8 (4 ties, 2 legs)

4 games = Last 4 (2 ties, 2 legs)

Final

Now, BT have to screen 11 more games ‘free to air’ on BT Showcase – out of those, at least 3 will involve British teams (they have to screen Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City at least once) and we have to see the final as well.  As for the other seven games, who knows?

In Europa League, BT have to screen 14 games ‘free to air’ on BT Showcase – out of those, at least 3 will involve British teams (they have to screen Liverpool, Spurs and Celtic at least once – Southampton failing to get through to the group stages) and we have to see the final as well.  As with the Champions League, which games will we see?  I suspect we’ll see one group game from each matchday for the Champions/Europa League – keep an eye on my blog, I’ll publish the TV details as soon as I have them.  Read my articles from earlier this week re: BT Showcase (Cricket and Football coverage)…

Pro 12 Rugby

I’m trying to establish which Pro12 games are being shown next weekend, for the first games of the season.  I think there will be a couple of games available through the BBC Sport App, but none on the Red Button itself as there’s Wheelchair Basketball.
