Aldi Winter Advocaat
£5.79 per bottle – Available now in stores
Aldi say “…it’s creamy, traditional Dutch drink” – and I have to be honest, Advocaat is a whole new experience for me. I’d go as far to say I’m an Advocaat virgin, at the age of 35. Shame on you Chris. But there is one thing that has perhaps always put me off – EGG! I even hate the word EGG. EGG EGG EGG EGG EGG. I have no idea why – I used to be rather fond of scrambled eggs as a child, but as I advanced in years, my dislike formed.
I’m 35 now and I’ve tried to put this right. Now, I’m rather fond of an omelette, and at Bluehills Farm in Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire last year I thoroughly enjoyed trying the scrambled egg with their delicious breakfast. So, what better time to try Advocaat? It’s a cold February night – and I reckon this will be perfect for warming the cockles… here goes.
There’s some lovely smells coming from the glass, it smells nothing like I imagined it would. So far, so good. Then comes the taste. It’s lovely and creamy, nothing like I imagined it would be at all! Really rather nice. Thumbs up! Another drink I like! For me, it’s like Baileys, but certainly creamier, and I think the brandy comes through too. At 14% ABV, it’s a lovely drink… Eggs? What’s all the fuss about?!
Then… all of a sudden my glass is empty. I’ve knocked my Advocaat over, nudging the glass with my foot. A puddle of yellow now all over the living room carpet. Time to do some cleaning before filling my glass up! Chris
My bottle of Aldi Winter Advocaat was complimentary but all views are my own.
