Aldi Irish Cream – Review

Thanks once again to Aldi, who have sent me two more fantastic tipples to try.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up soon – and what better than an Irish Cream to accompany your evening?  (And dare I say it but Ireland play England during the final week of the Six Nations – so these Irish Cream beverages would be perfect for the Rugby!)

First up, the Ballycastle Irish Country Cream, which is just £3.75 a bottle.  It’s 14.5% ABV, and it’s a lovely, creamy drink… which is very smooth in texture.  You can add ice to it, but I decided to have it at room temperature, and it was lovely.  It’s on sale, nationwide – available right now.

It is certainly chocolatey – very similar to Bailey’s in taste, and much, much cheaper!  A 70cl bottle too.  I give it a 7.5 out of 10, well worth picking up… very pleasurable indeed!  It doesn’t taste too strong – and as another suggestion,  Aldi even recommend a scoop of ‘Gianni’s Soft Scoop Vanilla Ice Cream’ with it – see for yourselves!

Next up, the ‘Specially Selected Irish Cream Liqueur‘ – priced at £6.99 for a 70cl bottle.  For me, it was the nicest of the two I tried, giving it a whopping 9 out of 10!

It’s 17% ABV, and it does taste much stronger.  It’s not as creamy as the Ballycastle bottle, and you can obviously taste the whiskey, and it’s a lovely drink that goes down with ease.  Of course, you can add a shot to a hot chocolate – but it’s excellent just on its own.  The ‘Specially Selected Irish Cream Liqueur’ will be on sale nationwide in Aldi from March 9th.  Don’t miss it!

I’ve had an enjoyable evening trying them – a better evening than my wife as I write this (who incidentally had just been doing our weekly shop in Aldi Bradford and as she left the supermarket our car wouldn’t start!  Over an hour waiting for a breakdown van whilst I enjoyed these Irish tipples at home!)  Chris
