May 7th 2017 saw the Driffield Triathlon take place once again at Driffield Leisure Centre, organised by Freebird Events – their first event in their busy 2017 calendar.
Lots of people doing their first ever triathlon today – well done to Matt Dawson, Rachel Feather, Lucie Stevenson, Rebecca Thompson, Andy Lyons, Toby Curtis, Tabitha Kennedy, Gracie Wright, Jake Thwaites, Ruby Shannon, Adele Havercroft – all experiencing a triathlon for the first time. And there was loads more too all debuting – well done to you all and I hope it’s given you the bug to sign up for more events.
It all started for the competitiors with a 16 length swim in the Driffield Leisure Centre pool, 400 metres in total to swim. Then, onto the bikes for a cycle course approximately 19 kilometres in length. The run was a 3 lap course, 5 kilometres in total, in and around the Driffield Leisure Centre grounds.
The start times were staggered throughout the day, and the event concluded with Junior races in various categories, for youngsters aged between 8 and 14.
Overall, in the Men’s Sprint, William Atkinson came out on top, completing the course in 54 minutes and 9 seconds, a fantastic time. 2nd was Andy Lyons in 55:23 and Joseph Hudson in 55:49.
In the Female Sprint results, Brit Tate was the fastest around the course, crossing the line in 59 minutes and 23 seconds. Katy Cawthorn finished in 1:05:31 and in 3rd was Donna James, finishing in 1:06:04.
