England Darts Organisation’s flagship international event the England Open is being televised LIVE on Front Runner this weekend – with some of the world’s best players competing for the coveted titles.

The 10th England Open will be broadcast live on Saturday (June 17) and Sunday (June 18) to 19 million homes across the UK and Northern Ireland on SKY ch469, Freesat ch250, Freeview ch91, Talk Talk/ BT ch91.

On Saturday, Front Runner will air the National Singles Men’s and Ladies Finals from 4.30pm, and the main show will start on Sunday at 3pm with six hours of darts from The Men’s, Ladies and Youth stage finals.

Filming will take place at the Bunn Leisure Holiday Centre in Selsey, near Bognor Regis, in West Sussex – a venue which has become famous through hosting this popular annual event.

Players competing in the men’s categories include:-

  • World Champion Glen “Duzza” Durrant, who will return to defend the titles he won last year;

  • Northumberland’s Gary “Big Robbo” Robson, who will mark his 50th birthday attempting to retain his National Singles Title from last year and also win his second open title following his previous victory in 2011;

  • Wesley “Sparky” Harms who leads the Dutch invasion of players and will be bidding for his fourth title as the most successful player in the history of the event; and

  • Scotland’s Ross “The Boss” Montgomery who leads the invasion from the north in a bid to win his second title.

Players lined up for the women’s categories are:-

  • Deta “The Dark Destroyer” Hedman, who bids to retain both her Open and National Singles Titles from last year;

  • Anastasia “From Russia with Love” Dobromyslova, Russia’s former three-times world champion;

  • Trina “Golden Girl” Gulliver MBE, 10 times world champion; and

  • Lisa “The Lancashire Rose” Ashton, who is the current world champion and is attempting to win her first England Open title.

In the youth categories, Owen Maiden from the West Midlands and Yorkshire’s Beau Greaves will attempt to defend their previous titles.

Tommy Thompson, Chairman of the England Darts Organisation, said: “The England Darts Organisation is thrilled that Front Runner is transmitting our flagship event which celebrates its 10th anniversary this weekend.”

He added: “We hope this strengthens our current and future collaboration with the channel, which also broadcast The Isle of Man Open and British Internationals live from their respective venues earlier this year.”

Ross Ravago, from Front Runner, said: “We’re really pleased to be offering another weekend of live international darts on Front Runner. Be sure to tune in from 4.30pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday for all the action at the England Open.”

More Darts for Front Runner

From http://www.englanddarts.co.uk

front-runner-tv

“We are pleased to announce that Front Runner (the UK’s only free to air sports channel) has today confirmed a further broadcasting deal with the England Darts Organisation to broadcast live at the England Open to be played from the 15th to 18th June 2017.

We are delighted to have agreed this deal with Front Runner and to get live television exposure for the England Open and we hope the players and supporters of EDO darts will also be thrilled with this fabulous news.

This will be our third event that Front Runner will broadcast, the first was the Pokerstars Isle of Man Festival of Darts and the second was the 38th annual British International Championships.

Front Runner broadcasts on a number of platforms and is available on SKY ch468, Freesat ch250, Freeview ch91 and Talk Talk/BT ch91.”

Chris: Great news that more England Darts tournaments will be on Freeview.   I enjoyed the coverage from the first two tournaments shown (Isle of Man and Bradford). – John Gwynne as commentator is an excellent addition to the coverage too.  The only concern with the previous broadcasts is that coverage has had to switch to You Tube, meaning Front Runner viewers have missed the end of the matches!  Hopefully this can be rectified for the next tournament in June.

Sport on Freeview Week Commencing May 6th

Hello all and welcome to this week’s blog.  Check out the Giro D’ Italia Cycling highlights on Quest… I saw bits from Day 1’s highlights and really enjoyed the coverage.  Check out my other articles from earlier in the week too, BT Showcase, Aviva Premiership Rugby… something for everyone.  Sunday (May 7th) if you’re near Driffield in Yorkshire come and say hello – I’ll be hosting the Driffield Triathlon, commentating on proceedings.  Chris

S4C to show highlights coverage of Lions’ tour to New Zealand

The British and Irish Lions face the ultimate test this summer as they travel to New Zealand to take on the All Blacks and Welsh broadcaster S4C will be with them every step of the way.

An agreement with Sky Sports – live broadcaster and the official licensee in the UK and Ireland – means that viewers will be able to enjoy free-to-air highlights coverage of each game in the Welsh language.

S4C will broadcast highlights of all 10 fixtures including the three test matches against the back-to-back world champions. The exclusive free-to-air highlights will be shown on the same day of each game with an evening transmission. Catrin Heledd will lead the presentation team, while Gareth Rhys Owen and Wyn Gruffydd will share commentary duties.

S4C’s coverage, produced by Sunset and Vine Cymru and Sports Media Services, will start on Saturday 3 June, with the opening match of the tour against the Provincial Union XV.

The first test against the All Blacks takes place on Saturday 24 June at the iconic Eden Park in Auckland, while the second test will be held a week later at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington, on Saturday 1 July. The final test sees both teams return to Eden Park on Saturday 8 July.

S4C is available on all platforms in Wales and on Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media all over the UK. A HD service can be enjoyed on a both the Sky and Freesat platforms.

S4C Content Commissioner, Sport Sue Butler said: “A British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand is something that only comes around once every 12 years and is a truly unique event in the world of sport.  We hope viewers will be delighted that we are able to offer free-to-air highlights of every game on S4C.”

Chris: Great that the Lions games will be on Freeview – and via BBC Iplayer, everyone will be able to see some of the action.
