The Works – Take a Look

theworks-logo

Thanks to The Works, who kindly sent me an academic diary for 2017/18.  So many stores on the high street now, but also a great range online too – and if you see something online, you can select it, and go and collect it from your nearest outlet.

With my MC work in particular, an academic diary is really handy – i’m starting to get bookings for next year, and it means I can make a note of them.  I have two diaries – I have a planner, with my daily to-do lists, and a daily diary, where I write my journal and thoughts – and I’ve done this since 2005!  I started out with my journal by keeping an A5 Day to Page Diary, but now have expanded to an A4 Day to a Page, somehow I manage to fill a page each day with my thoughts!

So, whatever diary  you’re looking for – The Works will have something for you, and if you have anyone you know who’s going back to school, college or university, then all your stationery needs can be sorted here.

Fancy this…  A year of live sport for just £19.99 with Eurosport Player (Normally £59.99!).  A great offer. “Anytime, Anywhere”… you can catch the extensive live sport wherever you are.

Check out http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk for more details!  NOTE – THIS OFFER ENDS ON JANUARY 31ST, DO NOT MISS OUT!  BUY IT NOW FOR JUST £19.99!
Over the next month, I’ll be reviewing Eurosport’s coverage.  First up to mention is the Australian Open Men’s Singles Final on Sunday – the only place you can see it live is on Eurosport.  During the week there’s ‘Live Winter Universiade’, the men’s cross-country classic.  And from Wednesday there’s the Snooker German Masters, with extensive coverage on Eurosport.
I’ve been watching Eurosport Player via Amazon Fire TV, and downloaded the official Eurosport app.  Great picture quality, was enjoying downhill skiing this weekend.  Comprehensive coverage, really good.  You may have seen the news that Discovery channels may leave Sky at the end of January – it’s a shame Sky cannot realise how good the Discovery channels are.  Eurosport 1 and 2 are Discovery channels, so maybe purchasing Eurosport Player is a solution for you – in order to keep watching their in-depth tennis, snooker, cycling, etc.

TVPlayer-Plus-logo_w720.png

I’ll be picking out some programmes you catch each week on TV Player Plus.  To subscribe, and for more information, visit http://tvplayer.com/plus – £5.99 a month for 30 premium channels; it’s great value.  Channels include GOLD, Alibi, Lifetime, W, Eurosport 1 and 2, Eden – and loads more.  There’s the option to watch the 30 premium channels (and loads of Freeview channels) all live, and a good selection of catch-up material too.

Saturday on GOLD there’s a night of ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ starting from 9pm, love this sitcom… I genuinely never tire of watching it.  Sunday on Comedy Central at 10pm you can see Lee Evans’s stand-up performance ‘Monsters’ from 2014.  On Monday at 9pm on History there’s brand new ‘American Pickers’ to look out for.

Tuesday at 9pm on Discovery there’s brand new ‘Gold Rush’ (remember Sky may lose Discovery channels at the end of the month, so subscribing to TV Player Plus would give you access to the Discovery channels, well worth remembering!).  Comedy Central on Wednesday at 10pm has brand new ‘The Chris Ramsey Show’, GOLD on Thursday at 8pm has the brilliant film ‘Groundhog Day’… and Eden on Friday at 9pm has ‘David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities’.  Plenty to look forward to.

Sad news this weekend in the Racing world.  I’d just enjoyed watching Many Clouds on Racing UK, from ‘Westgate 23’ in Heckmondwike where they show Racing UK Live – a great win, and sadly passed away shortly after his victory.

Snooker On Freeview – A Guide (Updated)

Hello all – following the English Open on Quest, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a guide, detailing all of the ‘Free’ Snooker available this season.

quest2014

Quest – English Open

The 1st tournament in the new ‘Home Nations’ series.  Eurosport has full coverage for subscribers, but Quest had daytime coverage, plus highlights of the evening sessions and the final in full, live and for free.

November 7th – 12th 2016 (6 days)

ITV4 – Champion of Champions

ITV has the rights for this tournament until 2019.  Featuring the winners of the various tournaments throughout the year, it’s not a ranking event but ITV provide great coverage.

November 14th – 20th (7 days)

Quest – Northern Irish Open

The 2nd tournament in the new ‘Home Nations’ series.  Expect coverage to be similar to the ‘English Open’ (see above).

November 26th – December 4th (9 days)

BBC – UK Championships

Live on the BBC until 2019 – there is coverage on BBC One and Two, and extensive coverage on the BBC Red Button channel, of one table.  The BBC Sports App has two tables of live action.

February 13th – 19th  (7 days)

BBC Red Button – Welsh Open

The final tournament in the new ‘Home Nations’ series.  Quest don’t have the free-to-air rights to this tournament.  However, BBC Red Button broadcasts BBC Wales’s live coverage, with daytime live sessions and an hour of live coverage in the evenings.  Some coverage may not be on BBC Red Button if there is another event on (e.g Final Score) but full coverage will be on the BBC Sport App.

February 23rd – 26th (4 days)

ITV4 – Snooker Shoot Out

Live on ITV until 2018 – this will be held in Watford in 2017.  It will feature 128 players in 2017 – this is quick fire snooker!  Blink and you will miss!  Great format though.

Champion of Champions Snooker – Starts Tuesday!

The Group Stage draw for this week’s 188BET Champion of Champions has been made, with World Champion Stuart Bingham opening proceedings against China’s World Cup winner Zhou Yuelong.

The tournament breaks off on Tuesday, November 10 at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena and Bingham’s match will be followed by No. 6 seed Judd Trump against Kyren Wilson.

Broadcast live on ITV4 throughout, the competition sees 16 of the world’s best players, all tournament winners over the previous 12 months, competing to be crowned the 188BET Champion of Champions.

The players are split into four groups of four, with one group played on each day from Tuesday, November 10 until Friday, November 13.

There are eight seeded players in total and each seeded player will play an unseeded opponent in a best-of-seven group match in the afternoon session with the two winners clashing over 11 frames in the evening. The four group winners will proceed to the best-of-11 semi-finals on Saturday, November 14 before Sunday, November 15 sees a two-session final played over 19 frames.

Wednesday, November 11 sees action from Group 1 with John Higgins taking on Ali Carter before Joe Perry faces Michael White. Higgins has assumed the No.1 seeding having replaced Ronnie O’Sullivan as the highest ranked player already qualified.

On Thursday Neil Robertson will be up against Ruhr Open champion Rory McLeod with that match followed by Shaun Murphy against Zhou’s fellow World Cup winner Yan Bingtao.

The final group action comes from Group 2 on Friday, November 13 when World No.1 Mark Selby takes on Stephen Maguire and Barry Hawkins will play the winner of this weekend’s Bulgarian Open. Should the winner of the Bulgarian Open already be qualified, Ding Junhui, winner of last month’s Asian Tour event, will play Hawkins.

Tuesday November 10, Group 3 (first match at 1pm)
Stuart Bingham (3) v Zhou Yuelong
Judd Trump (6) v Kyren Wilson

Chris’s Prediction – A Bingham/Trump group final, with Trump to go through.

Wednesday, November 11, Group 1 (first match at 1pm)
John Higgins (1) v Ali Carter
Joe Perry (8) v Michael White

Chris’s Prediction – A Higgins/White group final, with White to go through.

Thursday, November 12, Group 4 (first match at 1pm)
Neil Robertson (4) v Rory McLeod
Shaun Murphy (5) v Yan Bingtao

Chris’s Prediction – A Robertson/Murphy group final, with Robertson to go through.

Friday, November 13, Group 2 (first match at 1pm)
Mark Selby (2) v Stephen Maguire
Barry Hawkins (7) v Mark Allen

Chris’s Prediction – A Maguire/Allen group final, with Allen to go through.

Tickets for the 188BET Champion of Champions are available now at http://www.theticketfactory.com and at http://www.championofchampionssnooker.co.uk

ITV4 Schedule

The broadcast schedule is 12:45-17:15 and 18:45-23:15 every day from Tuesday to Sunday.

The event is presented by Jill Douglas, joined in the studio by Alan McManus and Neal Foulds, with commentary from Clive Everton.

Chris’s Verdict on the Champion of Champions:

This really is an enjoyable tournament in the Snooker calendar – and ITV4’s coverage is brilliant.  You have Clive Everton and Neal Foulds as part of the commentary team…  for me, I think the coverage is ahead of what we see on the BBC now.  Yes, there’s commercials, after all it’s on ITV4, but they’re not intrusive, a frame ends and there’s a short, simplistic break before the action continues.  Ronnie O’ Sullivan won the title last year, of course he will be missed – Ronnie just adds something to every tournament he takes part in.  But, tune in to this, it’s a good format, with each group decided in one day, with semis on Saturday and the final over two sessions on Sunday.

ITV4 also screens the World Grand Prix during the Snooker calendar and from early next year, they’ll screen the Snooker Shoot Out, which used to be broadcast on Sky Sports.  I love this tournament, I’ve been to Blackpool myself to watch it.  Great that more people will be able to tune in on Freeview.

Tournament Sponsor:

188BET and Matchroom Sport are excited to announce that 188BET is the title sponsor of the 2015 Champion of Champions snooker tournament.

Taking place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry from Tuesday to Sunday 10-15 November, the 188BET Champion of Champions will be broadcast live throughout on ITV4 in the UK.

The 188BET Champion of Champions features World Snooker tournament winners from the previous 12 months, including World Champion Stuart Bingham, Masters Champion Shaun Murphy as well as the likes of Grand Prix champion Judd Trump, German Masters victor Mark Selby and Welsh Open winner John Higgins.

The tournament begins with four groups, each featuring a semi-final and final on the same day with the group winners progressing to the tournament semi-finals on Saturday 14 November. Sunday’s final will be played over 19 frames with the winner taking home £100,000.

In addition to live coverage throughout in the UK, the 188BET Champion of Champions will also be aired on CCTV in China, Sky New Zealand, OSN throughout the Middle East, Nova in Czech and Slovakia and Setanta (Ireland).

Barry Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sport, said: “We are delighted to be working with 188BET for the first time on what is one of the biggest events on the snooker calendar. The 188BET Champion of Champions is a blue riband event and the millions of fans watching both in person at the Ricoh Arena across the world on live TV will be in for a treat of world class snooker from the first ball till the last.”

188BET’s Managing Director, Nigel Singer said: “I’m very pleased to announce 188BET’s partnership with Matchroom Sport. The Champion of Champions snooker tournament is one of the biggest events on the snooker calendar. Through our partnership, the 188BET Champions of Champions tournament will reach millions of snooker fans with live television coverage on multiple channels.”
